Thakeham Primary School is in seventh heaven after its A team won the inaugural STARS Primary Schools Girls Football Competition played on two grass pitches at Steyning Grammar School's Rock Road site yesterday. Five teams entered the event from three schools - Thakeham, St Mary's Washington and Ashington. Some super matches were played within the round-robin fixture schedule.

Thakeham A won all their matches well but Washington provided particularly stiff resistance in a game that finished 3-1. Ashington put in some powerful performances also but succumbed 3-0 to the eventual winners. Washington versus Ashington effectively was a second place decider and fittingly for two schools only split by a W by name, it was only a single goal for Ashington that split them by score. Well done to Thakeham B and C sides for trying hard throughout. Thakeham B's 1-0 win when the two met put them into third spot.

In the penalty competition at the end every girl from each team took one penalty against a goalkeeper from a different team. Both Ashington and Thakekam A scored four penalties to tie.

Well done to all involved.
