Forest Badminton Club, based at Tanbridge House School, is encouraging more adults to take up or return to badminton by running a 6-week programme. Participants will be able to learn or brush up their skills at a relaxed pace in a fun and friendly setting. There's a free taster session running on Sunday 30th September 7-8pm and the programme proper starts on Sunday 7th October. Cost is £25 per person, coaches are Badminton England qualified and rackets are available to borrow if needed.

The Year 5+6 Horsham Primary Schools Football League got underway tonight in Horsham Park. 45 matches were played spanning across separate large schools and small schools section to meet the English Schools FA competition qualifying requirements. At the end of a fascinating's evening's play five teams - Greenway A, Southwater A, Heron Way A, Plaistow and Kirdford, and St Mary's Horsham had gone unbeaten. Six teams also failed to record a victory including the aforementioned unbeaten St Mary's Horsham team who managed to draw all five of its matches!

Table Tennis England is putting a new spin on its project designed to help organisations introduce table tennis into the community. The initiative has been relaunched as Ping in the Community, to align the project with the Ping! family alongside the Ping! festival and Ping Pong Parlours – which both bring free table tennis into the places people already spend time in their everyday lives. The aims are unchanged; Ping in the Community will continue to help the members of a variety of groups and organisations get more active, healthy and closer together by supplying subsidised table tennis packages, containing everything required to get people playing and enjoying the game!

Horsham Baseball and Softball Club has spent the past 18 months re-forming and re-focusing its priorities to once again become a key club in the town’s sporting landscape, offering both youth baseball and adult softball. Paul Taylor from Horsham District Council and colleagues such as Kim Roberts have worked closely with BaseballSoftballUK to set up a series of development programmes, detailed below, which are contributing towards shaping the latest version of club.

British Blind Sport’s See My Voice programme will be recruiting for it's second year over the next two months. The sports leadership programme, aimed at supporting those aged 11 - 18, supports young people develop new skills, gain confidence, make new friends and empowers them to voice their opinions. Application deadline is 22nd October to be a part of the 2019 programme.

For too long, disabled people’s representation in senior roles and on boards within the sporting sector has remained low. Activity Alliance wants to understand the professional aspirations of disabled people and what support they could offer to enable more disabled people to pursue senior roles. This includes senior management and board membership, within the sport and active recreation sectors. To do this, Active Alliance are calling upon disabled people and people with long-term health conditions to share their experiences and views.

Swimming charity Level Water are working in partnership with Horsham District Council, Places Leisure and Bluecoats Sports to provide 1:1 swimming lessons to children with mobility and sensory impairments in Horsham. They fund lessons for children: aged 4-11, who cannot currently swim 15 metres, with a physical disability or sensory impairment (visual / hearing), who do not have a substantial learning, social or behavioural difficulty. Lessons will be initially at Pavilions Leisure Centre and Billingshurst Leisure Centre.

From 19 September to 19 December Horsham Indoor Bowls Club will be running roll-up sessions on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. Visitors are welcome to join HIBC club members for two free taster sessions. Subsequent visits are £3 per session (members rate). Advance booking is not necessary.

The search is on for your community heroes to be nominated for this year's West Sussex County Times Community Awards.  These awards are an opportunity to applaud the unsung heroes in our area. The shortlist will be revealed and the winners chosen at a special awards ceremony at the Capitol Theatre in Horsham on 15 October 2018. Deadline for nominations is 21 September.

Sport England has developed a plan to give the more than 400,000 people who work in the sport and physical activity sector in England the best possible support. Working in an Active Nation’s vision is that everyone working in sport and activity feels confident, valued and supported. This strengthening of the workforce would make it more able to give the best possible experience for the people who are – or who want to be – active.

Horsham Indoor Bowls Club is diversifying its offer to include the short mat format as well. They have two mats and are offering two free taster sessions to encourage people to give it a go on Friday mornings between September 28th and December 14th, 2018. Sessions are running 10am-12noon. Subsequent visits at £3 per person per session - same rate as members

After years of planning and negotiation, over one year of construction, and a £12 million budget, we are delighted to announce that The Bridge Leisure Centre in Broadbridge Heath will be opening to the public on Saturday 20 October from 9am. Replacing the existing Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre, this light and spacious new centre offers a 70+ station gym, 70+ workout classes, a six court sports hall, five outdoor sports courts, three studios including an Indoor cycling studio, athletics track, café, meeting room and a wide range activities for adults and children.

The new Horsham area primary schools competition calendar got underway in Horsham Park last night with an excellent football practice tournament curtain-raiser. Southwater A ended up top-dogs in the Year 3+4 double round-robin, nudging out Heron Way and the fortunes of these two schools was reversed in the year 5+6 event as Heron Way prevailed with Southwater A close behind. The general levels of behaviour, skill and excitement were excellent boding well for the leagues starting next week.

Hot on the heels of Friday's practice tournaments this year's primary school open football leagues begin in Horsham Park on Friday 28th September, 4-6pm with the year 5+6 first meeting taking place. 19 teams from 12 schools will be taking part split between the small schools event (six teams) and the large schools one (13 teams). Winners of both year 5+6 categories will qualify to the next round of the English Schools FA small and large school competition processes. May the best teams win!

Nominations are now open for the Sussex Sports Awards 2018. Active Sussex, the county sports development team, need help in finding high performing athletes and teams, dedicated volunteers and coaches, and the organisations at the heart of Sussex sport and physical activity. The shortlist of finalists will be announced on Wednesday 31 October 2018, and the winners announced at the prestigious Sussex Sports Awards at The Grand Hotel, Brighton on Friday 23 November.

A significant cut in the number of hours schools teach PE and personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) at school, has raised concerns about pupils' health. Analysis of Department for Education figures has revealed major drops in the time allocated to both subjects prompting fears about the wider impact this will have on young people's physical and mental wellbeing. Alison Oliver, chief executive of the Youth Sport Trust, said the reduction in PE hours was “very worrying” because of its implications for “young people’s physical, social and emotional health”. She says the trend risks increasing childhood obesity and exacerbating the mental health crisis.

More than 1,000 talented young athletes competed at the UK’s biggest youth multi-sports event at Loughborough University from 30 August-2 September. The School Games National Finals is delivered annually by children’s charity the Youth Sport Trust, with National Lottery funding from Sport England and supported by National Governing Bodies of Sport and County Sports Partnerships.

As part of the FA’s commitment to support adult male football it has launched a Facebook campaign targeting 18 – 25 year olds to excite them about the new season and help them to find and sign up to a local team on the FA’s search engine ‘Play Football'. The campaign will feature a range of images and video films that bring together all of the conventions, customs and characteristics of the grassroots game.

The FA has launched a new Mini Soccer and Youth Futsal Handbook just in time for the new 18/19 season. Whether you are a coach, volunteer, parent or player the new handbook will act as any easy reference guide for those involved in Mini Soccer and Youth Futsal.

On 19th September, 2018 at Billingshurst Library, between 3 and 7pm there is an opportunity to receive 1-2-1 advice on Spacehive funding. West Sussex Crowd is a new crowdfunding initiative which gives people the opportunity to run crowdfunding campaigns for local projects across the county. From community gardens and street murals to festivals and sports facilities, if you want to enhance your neighbourhood, improve your local park or play area, or simply bring people together, the West Sussex Crowd enables you to get your project off the ground through crowdfunding. There is a fund of £330,000 also available to support crowdfunding projects from West Sussex County Council.
