2020 is heralding the start of a new cricket club in the Horsham District - Kilnwood Vale CC. The club initially formed for the 2019 season, but lack of pitch availability held up progress, however thanks to the tremendous help of the Sussex Cricket League the Vale now have a pitch to call home for the 2020 season, playing home matches at Southgate Park alongside Crawley CC. In addition to this, the club will be offering the opportunity for people to play midweek fixtures in the new Sussex Slam competition as the Kilnwood Vale Kings.
The Sussex Slam, which launches its first season this year contains 69 clubs around Sussex and is great for those new to the sport, or returning to the sport, as it takes place of a mid-week evening with a quicker format to be completed within 2 ½ hours. In the Sussex Slam, the Kings will take on Warnham, Roffey and Broadbridge Heath.
Whilst the club will call Southgate Park home for 2020, it is hoped that the cricket ground Kilnwood Vale will be completed by 2021 or 2022 to enable new residents to enjoy matches at their new home. With a blank record book, this is a great opportunity for players to make Kilnwood Vale history as they go about the sport they enjoy.
The club continue to look for new players and volunteers and anyone interested in joining can get in touch with the club through the club’s website as we look to promote cricket in the area through the new club.
