'Horsham District Health Rides' are free social rides for starter-level cyclists. A great way to improve your cycling ability, socialise with others and develop new skills. You don’t need to be an Olympian, just in possession of a working bicycle with the ability to ride.

All rides will be led by experienced volunteer ride leaders. There will be a choice of four regular routes, including a 6km Shelley route and longer two to three hour rides, including cafe stops, along the Downs Link, to Sumner's Pond, around Warnham and on Pedlar's Way to Southwater. A hybrid bike is suitable for all rides but road bikes can be used for “on road “ rides.

Down's Link Ride Details

TIME - 10am start. Expected return between 12.30-1.00pm

ROUTE - Down’s Link (North, towards Rudgwick or South, towards Southwater). Mostly off-road, level and relatively easy. Small section of very quiet roads to negotiate with leader support through the new housing estate in Broadbridge Heath.

MEETING POINT - Car park of the Broadbridge Heath Village Centre - scroll down page to see map below. Village Centre is accessible by car from driving through Broadbridge Heath and turning into Wickhurst Lane or on foot/bike via the underpass on the A281 mini-roundabout access point to the Tescos/BBHLC complex.

10TH JULY NOTE - there is a choice of meeting points on the 10th July ride. 9.30am on the Forum or 10am at Broadbridge Heath Village Centre. The Broadbridge Heath Way connects the two as a signed cycle route from the centre of Horsham to Broadbridge Heath.

Shelley Ride Details

TIME - 10am start. Expected finish at Warnham Nature Reserve between 12-12.30pm

ROUTE - Approximately 6km ride which goes down the Causeway and joins the Riverside Walk to finish at the Warnham Nature Reserve.

If you would like to join us for one of our rides but are but are new to cycling, returning after a long break or unsure about the level of fitness required we are happy to arrange a ride in Horsham Park to help build your confidence. General Information

AGE/ABILITY - Riders of all abilities, including beginners and returners. There are no age parameters but it is expected most riders will be aged over 50 years

BENEFITS - Enjoyment, fresh air, scenic landscapes, opportunity to socialise, healthy physical activity, personal improvement and moral support from trained leaders

RIDE LEADERS - all are trained volunteers

RISK - all rides in the programme have been properly risk assessed

EQUIPMENT - Bring a bike that is in good working order, especially with two working brakes. The bringing and wearing of a helmet is recommended. Also recommended to bring a drink and snack
