Horsham District Council's Wellbeing team is running 'Get Active' programmes aimed at adults aged 18+ who are not currently active but interested in becoming so. If you are interested in looking good and feeling great this 10-week programme of one hour per week this programme is definitely worth considering. There will also be a chance to try new activities and meet new friends.

'It's All About Me' Weight Management Programmes

Horsham District Council's Wellbeing team is running 'It's All About Me' weight management programmes to support adults concerned about their weight with low intensity activities and nutrition advice and discussions as part of a 12-week programme of one hour per week.

'It's All About Men' Programmes

The Horsham District Wellbeing team is providing FREE of charge, 12-week 'It's All About Men' courses to help adult males improve their health and wellbeing. Men experiencing issues like coronary heart disease, diabetes, joint and mobility problems, high cholesterol and blood pressure, cancers and sleep apnoea may wish to consider attending with a view to aspiring to more positive health states such as better toned muscles, greater confidence and energy, increased strength and vitality, strengthened immune system and reduced disease risk.

Prediabetes Programme

Preventing Type 2 Diabetes

Around 7 million people in the UK have prediabetes and have a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Horsham District Wellbeing's prediabetes programme aims to help prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes by reducing the risks and allowing people to take more control. The session helps people set small manageable goals to help avoid developing Type 2 diabetes and diet, physical activity and other lifestyle factors are the main focuses.

People who have a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes:

  • Family history of Type 2 diabetes
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 25
  • High Blood sugar level test result (from your GP or practice nurse)

If you fit into these categories the this prevention programme could provide you with the advice you need to prevent diabetes.

Strength and Balance Courses

Horsham District Wellbeing can help you to:

  • Improve your balance, coordination and flexibility
  • Strenghten the muscles that help prevents falls
  • Learn what to do if you do fall
  • Build your confidene
  • Maintain your independence

Steady on is a free 15 week program designed for those who are concerned about falling or have noticed their strength and balance isn’t as good as it once was.

In this progressive course you will learn key exercises to help improve muscle strength making you less likely to fall. We’ll also teach you what to do if the worse happens and you do have a fall.

Classes are held in local venues across the Horsham district and we aim to provide a welcoming, safe and friendly environment allowing you to concentrate on what you are learning.

As long as your balance concerns are not as a direct result of an illness or diagnosed disease and you can commit to an hour, once a week for 15 consecutive weeks this course may be for you.
